Our Story
The recent story began when, after 25 years working in aviation (despite originally wanting to be a wedding videographer but not knowing anything about it, aside from filming a few friends’ weddings on a VHS-C camcorder) and working on every aircraft from Concorde to executive jets, I walked into Maplins and purchased a new toy… a Phantom 4 drone (on a whim!)
Little did I know the journey this would take me on. Eventually, I took the leap and began the journey to gain my CAA PfCO qualifications before setting up Pesky Seagull drone services (the name came to me after disturbing the local residents of the Algarve!).
After a few wedding fayres, sports events and even a few bookings, I soon realised that drone footage needed to be complemented by ground footage and so I invested in a GoPro, making some great videos – especially for OCR events. One couple at a fayre had even booked me to film their entire wedding with a GoPro… then covid hit!
During Covid I was very busy with my aviation role (the UK PPE imports) but was equally concerned about the GoPro booking I had taken on; so I subscribed to a course by renowned videographer Adam Wing, with whom I had one-to-one mentoring. Immediately, I realised Pesky Seagull was not the right branding for the wedding industry and, after much deliberation, “Imosha Wedding films” was born (named after my daughter, Imogen Shaw) and made official at a visit to Gretna Green of all places!
More weddings meant more experience and my films evolved into what they are today – including being a finalist in the 2025 TWIA wedding awards, the highlight of my progress to date!
It was as I filmed a couple’s wedding I saw a 360 video booth for the first time. As different as it was, I didn’t think twice about it until the bride asked me if I knew anyone who wanted to buy it as she had bought it for her own wedding with the idea of setting up an events company, until she realised the commitment required.
I couldn’t resist but to buy it from her, the idea being it would help upsell my videography. Then I realised the potential to use it for different types events, not just weddings I was filming.
Then… a major events hire company I knew the fayres announced they were closing to focus on family. I enquired about the possibility of purchasing some props and backdrops from them but the conversation soon got out of hand and, before you know it, I had put every penny I had into my own van, a magic mirror photo booth, candy carts, backdrops and around 60, 4ft tall, light-up letters and numbers! Storage is currently my biggest logistical issue.
Pesky Seagull and Imosha Wedding Films are still going in their own directions and therefore “Imosha Events” has been added to the portfolio… and yes, I am still involved in aviation!
